Idea Competitions Hold Significant Importance in Education and Innovation Ecosystems. The Idea Presentation Competition was successfully held on November 12 - 13, 2025 in Ezhuthachan College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, under the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC). The event showcased innovative proposals from enthusiastic students, promoting entrepreneurship and creativity. Participation nurtures an entrepreneurial mindset by guiding students to develop workable solutions and business models from idea conception to presentation. The competition provides valuable experiential learning beyond the standard curriculum, act as platform for mentorship and networking, motivating students to explore innovative technologies and approaches. Ideas were judged based on their innovation, the uniqueness compared to existing solutions, and the potential to create positive impact in society. The program strengthens essential skills for startup culture, including communication, ideation, and business model development.

On November 6th 2025, Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Ezhuthachan College of Pharmaceutical Sciences organized an inspiring workshop titled “From Kerala Shore to Global Stores by Refining Seaweed Gold – Empowering Pharmacists through the Blue Economy”. The session led by Prof. K. Periyanayagam, Professor and Head, Dept. of Pharmacognosy, explored the immense potential of marine bioresources and seaweed-derived biopolymers for sustainable innovation in pharmaceuticals, food, and biotech sectors. A special highlight was the confident and insightful presentation by Miss Dakshina R Nath, Eighth Sem B. Pharm student, mentored by Prof. Periyanayagam, Prof. Dr. Merlin M. J and Department of Pharmacology. The event provided a blend of real-world appreciation focusing on recent trends and innovations in pharmaceutical science. The class featured engaging discussions designed to bridge academic knowledge with hands-on applications to transform ideas into impactful ventures. As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of Pharmacy Practice, organized awareness sessions at NIMS Medicity, Ksheerolapadaka sahakarana Sangam Paliyode and the college campus. VI and III year Pharm D students conducted educational programs at NIMS Medicity and the college campus, highlighting the importance of early detection, self-examination, and preventive lifestyle practices. In the community session, Dr. Grace N. Raju, highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, followed by detailed presentations by Ms. Vishnumaya and Ms. Anchana, VI Year Pharm.D interns, on breast self-examination, risk factors, and anti-cancer diet. Ward Member Mrs. Mary Mini graced the event and appreciated the team’s efforts. The program effectively enhanced awareness on early detection and prevention of breast cancer among women.

In observance of World Iodine Deficiency Day (21st Oct), the Department of Pharmacy Practice conducted a community awareness program on 22nd October 2025. Second Year Pharm.D students visited nearby homes and educated the public on the importance of iodized salt, prevention of iodine deficiency disorders, and maintaining thyroid health. The initiative emphasized simple daily practices to ensure adequate iodine intake and promote community health.

In observance of World Infection Control Week 2025, the Department of Pharmacy Practice organized an Infection Control Awareness Booth at SBI Maryamuttom on 21st & 22nd October 2025. Students from Pharm.D Internship, III Pharm.D, II Pharm.D, and II D.Pharm actively engaged the public through counselling sessions and demonstrations on handwashing techniques, proper mask wearing & cough etiquette, and vector-borne disease prevention. A special focus was given to Amoebic Meningoencephalitis, a rare but serious infection recently reported with fatal cases, emphasizing early recognition and preventive measures such as safe water practices and personal hygiene. Free blood pressure monitoring was also offered as part of the health screening initiative. This program was highly relevant in today’s context, reinforcing the importance of hygiene, infection prevention, and public health awareness.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice organized an Orientation Program for the First-Year B. Pharm and Pharm. D students on October 18, 2025, at the College Auditorium. The session began with an introduction to the Pharmacy Practice Department and its activities by Dr. Grace N. Raju, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, highlighting the vital role of Pharmacists in patient care and clinical services. A Basic Life Support (BLS) session was handled by Dr. Alnon, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice demonstrating essential life-saving techniques during emergencies. This was followed by a First Aid session conducted by Dr. Reshma Babu, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, Dr. Drishya.L, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice and Dr. Chintha Chandran, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice covering management of burns, electric shock, snake bites, and seizures. The interactive and hands-on sessions helped students gain practical knowledge on emergency response and patient safety. The program served as a great start for the new batch, inspiring them to uphold the values of care, compassion, and professionalism in Pharmacy practice.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice observed World Hand Wash Day on October 15, 2025, to promote the importance of hand hygiene in infection prevention and public health. The second Year D.Pharm students conducted an engaging awareness session on proper hand washing techniques, including a live demonstration of the WHO recommended steps of hand washing. The session emphasized the role of clean hands in preventing communicable diseases and maintaining a healthy community. The program concluded with a hand hygiene pledge, where participants vowed to practice and promote proper hand washing habits in their daily lives.

The event was dedicated in honoring the dedication, hard work, and significant contributions, of the outgoing post graduates in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacology to the respective departments and to the college in general during their program tenure. The 8th Remembrance Day of Sri.T.G.Harikumar Sir, the revered Founder General Secretary of Ezhuthachan National Academy and the guiding spirit behind Ezhuthachan College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, was observed with deep reverence and gratitude on 15th October 2025 at the college campus. The solemn occasion served as a heartfelt tribute to the remarkable vision, leadership, and his selfless contributions. His enduring legacy continues to inspire the Ezhuthachan fraternity. The program commenced with a prayer song by Mrs.Namitha.K.N, Associate Professor, Ezhuthachan College of Pharmaceutical Sciences followed by welcome speech by Prof.(Dr.)Shaiju.S.Dharan, Principal, Ezhuthachan College of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In his address, he recalled the invaluable contributions of Shri.T.G.Harikumar Sir in establishing the Institution and nurturing it into a centre of excellence in Pharmaceutical education. He emphasized Sir’s commitment to academic quality, discipline, and human values that remain the foundation of the college’s growth. The presidential address was delivered by Shri.P.Jayakumaran, President, Ezhuthachan National Academy. He reflected on the visionary leadership of Shri.T.G.Harikumar Sir, highlighting his relentless dedication to education and community development. He noted that Sir’s life continues to serve as a guiding light for students, teachers, and administrators alike. The program was inaugurated by Shri. Ansalan, MLA, Neyyattinkara, who paid rich tributes to Shri.T.G Harikumar Sir. He appreciated the efforts of Ezhuthachan National Academy in upholding the values and ideals cherished by its founder and urged the students to follow in the footsteps of such great personalities and to contribute positively to society through their chosen professions. The Key note address was delivered by Shri.Vinod Vysakhi. The Department of Pharmacy Practice organized an awareness programme on 4th October 2025 at NIMS Medicity on Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM), a rare but life-threatening brain infection caused by Naegleria fowleri. As part of the programme, our Pharm.D interns counselled patients and care givers about the disease, focusing on its symptoms, risk factors and preventive measures.This initiative was aimed at enhancing community awareness and promoting patient safety.

On May 29, in observance of International Women’s Health Day, the Department of Pharmacy Practice and the 4th-year Pharm D students of Ezhuthachan College of Pharmaceutical Sciences organized a comprehensive awareness program under the theme “In Solidarity We Resist: Our Fight, Our Right.” The event aimed to shed light on key issues affecting women’s health and to empower participants with knowledge and practical insights. The program covered crucial topics such as menstrual hygiene, contraception and family planning, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), the impact of gender-based violence, maternal and postpartum care, and the importance of lifestyle and diet in women’s health. A unique feature of the event was the “Myth vs. Fact” response activity, where students actively participated in identifying and debunking common misconceptions surrounding women’s health. Their responses reflected increased awareness and encouraged open conversations around stigmatized topics. Dr. Harilal Madhavan, a Faculty Member of Humanities at the Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram, conducted a session on the topic "Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)." The sessions were very effective and informative.

National Science Day 2024 was celebrated by IIC, Ezhuthachan College of Pharmaceutical Sciences on 28/02/2024 with the theme “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat”. The programme was inaugurated by high profile Researcher and Scientist Dr.Manoj G, of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Poojappura. In his inaugural speech, he emphasized the need and importance of “repurposing drugs” and “personalized medicines”. A Science Day video made by III Pharm D students (Anjali Krishna, Jeffnisha, Pavithra, Amina, Angitha, Vishnumaya and Amrutha) was released by the Chief Guest, which covers all the major developments, achievements and advancements of Science till 2023. Dr Mathan S, Vice President of IIC delivered welcome address. Prof.Dr.Shaiju S Dharan, President of IIC had given the Presidential address. The programme was felicitated by the Convener of IIC Dr.Merlin N.J. The Chief Guest was introduced by Dr S.M. Sandhya, NIRF Coordinator, IIC. The students had the opportunity to explore labs dedicated to testing of Pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and ayurvedic products contributing to their overall learning in Pharmaceutical domain. "Glimpses of PHARMA SCIENTIA 2K23" - One Day National Symposium conducted at Ezhuthachan College of Pharmaceutical Sciences on 20/12/2023 in association with Kerala Pharmacy Graduates Association at college auditorium on the topic “Antimicrobial Resistance”. Former KUHS VC and spectrum Director of NIMS, Dr.M.K.C.Nair, inaugurated the symposium by lighting the lamp along with Neyyattinkara MLA K.A Ansalan. Panel discussions began with the introductory presentation of Dr.Merlin.N.J., Professor and HOD of the Department of Pharmacology on AMR. Panel discussions were chaired by Dr.S.M.Sandhya, Professor and HOD, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and moderated by Dr.P.K. Sreekumar, Rtd. Deputy Drugs Controller and President of Kerala Pharmacy Graduates Association. Eminent members of the panel were Dr. Sunitha Kumari R, Medical Officer, Community Health Centre Perumkadavila, Dr.M.S Sajeev Kumar, Assistant Drugs Controller, Drugs Control Department, Govt. of Kerala, Sri Naveen Chand O C , President, kerala State Pharmacy Council, Dr Santhanu Chattopathyay, Scientist, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Dr Preeja G Pillai, Principal, Mar Dioscorus College of Pharmacy. All the minute aspects of AMR were covered in a fruitful and informative manner by the esteemed panelists. Celebrations of “20th Foundation Day was held at Ezhuthachan College of Pharmaceutical Sciences”on 6-11-2023. The Hon'ble General Secretary, Mrs.Sudha Harikumar, inaugurated the celebrations by lighting the lamp. The senior managing committee members of Ezhuthachan National Academy, Sri.R. Gopinathan Nair, Dr. T.G. Ramachandran Pillai (President, Thunchan Smaraka Samiti), Sri P.A. Pillai, Sri Krishnan Kutty N and Sri.Ayyappan Nair K, were honored during the function, considering their invaluable contributions to the Institution. Staff members who had completed 20 years of the service were also appreciated.

"Glimpses of PHARMAGRASP 2023" - One Day National Seminar conducted by department of Pharmaceutical chemistry, Ezhuthachan College of Pharmaceutical Sciences on 27/10/2023 at college auditorium.Hon'ble General Secretary MRS. SUDHA HARIKUMAR inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp. DR. RAJASREE R. S, Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur attended the inaugural function as chief guest. DR. SARATHCHANDRAN SHEONY, Member Pharmacy Council of India has given the keynote address. Scientific sessions were handled by DR. P. MANOJ KUMAR, Professor, Lisie College of Pharmacy, Ernakulam and DR. P. VENKATESAN, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy, Annamalai University, Chidambaram. Nearly 290 delegates were registered for the seminar and the awards for best scientific paper and poster were received by DR.THOMAS KURIAN, Associate Professor, College of Pharmacy,Govt. Medical College, Kottayam and Hripriya, Research Scholar, CSIR-NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram respectively received from chief guest of valedictory function of seminar PHARMAGRASP 2023, DR. KUMARAN, PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST, CSIR-NIIST, PAPPANAMCODE. The seminar proceedings concluded with the National Anthem.

The World Tuberculosis (TB) Day was observed across the globe on March 24, 2019 with an aim to raise public awareness about the upsetting health and economic consequences of tuberculosis and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. Pharm D students from our Institution conducted an orientation programme at CHC Perumkadavila on this.
